The job of your board of directors is to set the level of ambition and strategic goals for your company. The board also monitors how the company is progressing towards achieving these goals. With the right board of directors in place, the CEO gains the tools he or she needs to drive your company’s growth. A board assessment serves as a way to ensure that critical decisions are made right – and by the right people.
Step 1. Board of director composition
Step 2. Level of ambition
Step 3. Strategic objectives to monitor
Step 4. Effective management
Step 5. Growth
Engaging an external party like Michael Berglund makes it easier for you to draw the right conclusions from a board assessment. This is because we apply tried and tested models, and because both the board members and the chair are part of the evaluation – even when the latter is our own client. Plus, you’ll also gain insights and experiences from the decades of assessments we’ve performed for other companies.
All of our board assessments include Michaël Berglund’s Board Index, which collects data from previous evaluations from a range of industries and company sizes.
According to the Swedish Code of Corporate Governance, a board of directors must evaluate its work annually. We recommend that you do a more comprehensive evaluation every two years and a simpler survey in the years in between. If your company is going through extensive changes or challenges, we recommend that you add a 360-degree analysis in addition to the assessment.
