About the course

If you’ve become a board member for a nonprofit or foundation, what are your responsibilities? How should the work of your board be managed, and where do you draw the line between the board and operational activities?

This extensive, full-day course offers you a thorough review of the legal and financial aspects of being a board member of a nonprofit or foundation. Furthermore, you will learn from a guest lecturer who shares his experiences and advice for board engagment in foundations. At the end of the day, you will graduate and receive a diploma – a receipt for your newly acquired knowledge and investment in the future.

Who is the course for?

Board Engagment for Foundations is a course for leaders who have become a board member, board chair of a nonprofit or foundation, or aspire to become one. You will also benefit from the course if you plan to start a foundation or otherwise have contact with foundations and nonprofits.

What can you expect from the course?

You’ll get a comprehensive picture of what is required of a board member of a nonprofit or foundation, board responsibilities, how the board’s acrivities should be designed and the legal aspects that have to be considered. The topics we cover include: responsibilities and duties of the board of directors, requirements for board members, rules of procedure during the board term, asset management and investment policy, regulatory oversight, legal considerations for nonprofits or foundations, and the role of the chair.

Who will teach the course?

This course is led by Fredrik Awerstedt, lawyer, Caroline Nykvist, lawyer, and Gustaf Axelsson, senior advisor. All three come from Handelsbanken, Private Banking Foundation. Nina Axelsson, program director at Michaël Berglund Board & Leadership Services, is the course facilitator.

Food and venue

The course is conducted in modern, bright premises. In between sessions during the day you can enjoy a morning coffee or tea break followed by lunch and an afternoon break.

Diploma

After you complete the training, you will receive both a paper diploma and online copy as a receipt of your newly acquired knowledge and investment in the future.

You will also automatically become part of Michaël Berglund’s Board Network upon course completion, and receive future invitations to network meetings with different themes.
